EDITORIAL DESIGN

COVER DESIGN

I met with editors to brainstorm the cover concept. I often generated the illustration, or directed the shot, as well as designing the cover.
Cover design is intended to communicate an editorial message in the most instantaneous way possible while being attractive and providing other useful information. Here is a representation of magazines, directories, and supplements which use cover art and design to both communicate and sell the message of the editorial.

FEATURE DESIGN

These samples of editorial design represent technology magazines, but in the "soft" industries of retail and hospitality. The design called for contemporary, technical, but also stylish and fashionable treatment. I designed these magazines: templates, logos, typography, color pallete, and these particular layouts and issues. Ad sales increased, and readership responded very favorably to the new designs and the higher level of design quality of all publications.

PHOTO DIRECTION

The editor was trying to interpret speed to market for Ann Taylor. Wolly Morin, SVP of IS, is shown with a stop watch and dresses zooming by him. This was my concept and I engineered the shoot on site at Ann Taylor. This cover effectively and graphically illustrates a case study on an issue of importance to readers. The message is instantly absorbed.
